We are undone

We've hit a wall. Or rather, I've hit a wall. The day started well. We were assaulted by mosquitoes, which gave way to pissing rain and cold.

When we got to the town of Morjärv it was 7:30, we were cold, wet and hungry. Geir found a store which hadn't yet opened, run by a lovely lady who let us buy some food, heat it in a microwave and eat it in the break room. We got changed and used the bathroom, it was great. After that we were refreshed and ready to cycle 14 miles to Pajala.

After cycling 6.66 miles (the symbolism is not lost on me) something went wrong. My knee popped. Moving it even a little was excruciating, pedalling even worse. I could barely put any weight on it. We managed, at a significantly reduced speed, to get to the next town.

We've cycled through bear country, through moose country and through gold country, and now, just shy of having cycled 100 miles, almost at the Finnish border, my knee failed me.

I'm annoyed to say the least.

We're waiting for a bus to take us to Pajala now, where we'll spend the night. Tomorrow we'll get a rental car and drive through most of Finland. Then we'll cycle the final 20 miles to Kirkenes over two days, taking our time.

My only consolation is that I managed to cycle through Sweden and that before the end I'll have cycled over 100 miles.
