After being promised a burger for three days, I finally got it. It's probably not the best burger in the world, but right it's exactly what I needed.
We've arrived in Strömsund, a medium sized town a fair distance into Sweden. We got up at six this morning and cycled for four hours through through Swedish forests, putting eight metric miles behind us, with an average speed of 20kph. It's been a good morning.
There hasn't been much to see but straight roads stretching on for miles and lots of trees. So I've included some pictures from yesterday. We found a sign pointing to France and wondered if we'd taken a wrong turn. At a petrol station we found a poster for tractor slalom. We're deep in swedish hillbilly country now, complete with swedish flags on every porch and Volvo wrecks in fields.
Strömsund, where we are now, marks a turning point. So far we've been going east, further and further into Sweden. From here on we start edging our way north.
Geir's knee is a bit better and he's decided to brave it. If his knee worsens he says he'll take painkillers. If it becomes unbearable we'll get a rental car once we get to Finland to rest his knees during what would have been the hardest part of the journey. As it stands, we're going to continue as planned.
Now we just need to find a cash point.
